Why do not people realize that oil, other than gasoline, is needed to generate 6000 or more ...?
... daily products? It's just a general question to make people think! A barrel of 42 gallons of oil creates 19.4 gallons gasoline. Crude Oil The problem is that crude oil contains hundreds of different types of mixed hydrocarbons. You must separate the different types of hydrocarbons to be something useful. Fortunately, there is an easy way to separate things, and this is oil refining. The process of refining oil begins fractional distillation column. different lengths of hydrocarbon chain are more and boiling points high, so that each can be separated by distillation. This happens in an oil refinery - in one part of the process, oil Crude is heated and the different channels are removed from their vaporization temperature. Each different chain length has a different property which makes it useful in a different way. To understand the diversity contained in crude oil, and why crude oil is refined so important in our society, look in the following list of products from crude oil: * Gas oil - used for heating, cooking, making plastics or small alkanes (1 to 4 carbon atoms) or more commonly known as methane, ethane, propane, butane or boiling range = less than 104 degrees Fahrenheit / 40 degrees Celsius or liquefied often under pressure to create LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) * Naphtha or Ligroin - intermediate which was then processed to produce gasoline or a mixture of alkanes of carbon 5 at 9 atoms or boiling = 140 at 212 degrees Fahrenheit / 60 to 100 degrees Celsius * Gas - liquid or mixture of alkanes and cycloalkanes (5 to 12 carbon atoms) or boiling range = 104 to 401 degrees Fahrenheit / 40 to 205 degrees Celsius * Kerosene - fuel for jet engines and tractors material for the manufacture of other products or mixtures of liquids or alkanes (10 to 18 carbons) and aromatics and boiling = 350 to 617 degrees Fahrenheit / 175 to 325 degrees Celsius * distillate petroleum gas or diesel - used for diesel fuel and heating oil, material material for manufacturing other products oo liquid alkanes to 12 carbon atoms or boiling = 482 to 662 degrees Fahrenheit / 250 to 350 * degrees Celsius Lubricating oil - used motor oil, grease and other liquid lubricants oo long chain (20 to 50 atoms of alkanes carbon), cycloalkanes, aromatics and boiling = 572 700 degrees Fahrenheit / 300 * 370 degree Celsius gas or heavy fuel oil - used as fuel industrial raw material for manufacturing other products oo long chain liquid (20 to 70 carbon atoms) alkanes, cycloalkanes, aromatics and boiling = 700 to 1112 degrees Fahrenheit / 370 to 600 degrees Celsius * Waste - coke, asphalt, tar, wax, material for the manufacture of other products or multiple compounds or solid ring with 70 or more carbon atoms or boiling = greater degrees Fahrenheit 1112 / 600 degrees Celsius, you may have noticed that all these products have different size ranges of boiling. Chemists take advantage of these properties in petroleum refining. Look in the next section for details of this fascinating process. ============== Oil Burning itself is of limited utility. To extract the maximum value of crude oil in the first place, must be refined into petroleum products. The best known of these is gasoline or petrol. However, there are many other products that can be achieved when the barrel of refined oil raw. These include liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), naphtha, kerosene, diesel and fuel oil. Other useful products which are not combustible can also be manufactured by refining crude oil, such as lubricants and asphalt (used in paving roads). A series of by-products like perfumes and insecticides are in the final example, also derived from crude oil. In addition, several of these products are derived from crude oil, such as gasoline, diesel, LPG and ethane can be used as inputs or raw materials in the production of petrochemicals. There are over 4,000 different petrochemical products, but those that are considered commodities are ethylene, propylene, butadiene, benzene, ammonia and methanol. The main groups at the end of petrochemical plastics, synthetic fibers, synthetic rubbers, detergents and chemical fertilizers. Given the large number of products, crude oil is a highly versatile. Life as we know it today would be very difficult without crude oil and its derivatives.
